Abstract

Bengkuang (Pachyrhizus Erosus) merupakan tanaman khas yang membuat Kota Padang dikenal sebagai Kota Bengkuang. Namun petani bengkuang Kota Padang saat ini hanya menjadikan bengkuang sebagai tanaman pengganti, dan jumlah petani bengkuang terus menurun setiap tahunnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan gambaran usahatani bengkuang dan mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan keputusan petani dalam melakukan usahatani bengkuang di Kecamatan Kuranji Kota Padang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodesurvei dan teknik sampling jenuh. Analisis data yang digunakan dari penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh dari data primer dan sekunder. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penurunan petani bengkuang di Kota Padang dikarenakan harga bengkuang yang relatif rendah. Petani menanam bengkuang hanya sebagai tanaman pengganti yang bertujuan untuk menyuburkan tanah. Di samping itu pemeliharaannya dilakukan dengan teknik yang sederhana dan tidak sesuai literatur. Faktor-faktor yang dianggap berhubungan dengan keputusan petani adalah aspek ekonomi dan juga peran penyuluh pertanian. Agar memperoleh hasil yang maksimal, sebaiknya petani melakukan teknik budidaya yang baik sesuai dengan pedoman dan literatur yang telah dianjurkan, serta pemerintah setempat diharapkan agar memberikan penyuluhan kepada petani tentang materi budidaya bengkuang.
